Dr Shruti Kohli is a Deputy Director (SCS1) in the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, leading the Data Strategy, Innovation and AI Readiness portfolio. She is responsible for shaping system‑level capabilities across data strategy, data sharing, algorithmic transparency, data ethics and responsible AI, ensuring government adopts AI safely, lawfully and with public trust.
Since joining DSIT in August 2025, Shruti has led the development of algorithmic transparency standards and the evolution of the Data Ethics Framework, strengthening how government assures itself that AI systems are being designed, deployed and governed responsibly. This work supports clearer accountability, proportionate assurance and better decision‑making across departments as AI use scales.
With a background as a digital transformation leader in data and AI, Shruti focuses on translating complex policy and technical challenges into practical, deliverable services. She also leads the Data Readiness for AI portfolio, including open‑source data capabilities and unstructured data readiness, enabling AI adoption at pace while maintaining strong governance, transparency and accountability.
