Michiel is the VP Operations for Europe and Pacific Developed Markets Region, based in Amsterdam and responsible for end-to-end supply chain management. Michiel has a wealth of experience in supply chain management, with a career spanning 30 years. He started at Unilever in 1993 and spent 14 years in various roles in Europe and Middle East, gaining a deep understanding of the end-to-end supply chain processes of Unilever’s Food business.
In 2007, Michiel joined Reckitt, leading Europe Manufacturing Strategy, followed by a move to Singapore to lead Asia end-to-end supply chain, and his last role was overseeing the NA and European operations. In 2015 he moved to Arla Foods, leading 60 production sites. From 2022 to 2024 he was COO at Umicore’s Battery Materials Division for EVs, developing their Global Footprint.
Michiel is known for tackling complex challenges with a balance of creativity, flexibility, and analysis. He’s passionate about delivering sustainable results by developing great leaders and stronger teams.

Throughout the past few years we’ve changed ways of working for large parts of the supply chain organization. They now operate following Agile methodology, which enables them to work in cross-functional pods and tackle specific problems in a very nimble and data-oriented way. These pods are composed of business owners, change management champions, scrum master, data science, data engineering, etc. This cross-functional workforce is self-sufficient and can create tools and processes to harness the issues at hand.
