Overview

Product Information on Slack

Updated 13th October 2025

What is Slack?

Slack is a software designed for team communication and collaboration, enabling users to organize conversations into channels based on projects, topics, or departments. The software provides tools for messaging, file sharing, and integrating various external apps, assisting in streamlining workflows and centralizing information. Slack offers search functionalities for messages and files, and supports notifications to keep users updated on relevant activities. Its features are intended to address business challenges related to fragmented communication, improving coordination and project management in organizations by consolidating communication within a secure, accessible platform.

Slack Pricing

Slack software offers a tiered pricing model with options including free, paid standard, plus, and enterprise plans. The free plan provides limited functionality and usage, while paid plans are structured on a per-user, per-month basis with additional features and administrative controls based on plan selection. The enterprise plan is designed for organizations with advanced requirements and is priced based on negotiation.

Slack is an incredible communication and collaboration platform. I couldn't imagine doing my job without Slack. It's a great informal way to get in touch with other teams and people without sending an email.

“Collaboration Platform Simplifies Use but Struggles With Message Organization and Noise”

Easy to use and useful for team collaboration outside of the office, but comes across as basic in what it can do. It can also become messy to maintain chats in the sidebar and I feel other chat based apps work much better overall.

- Real-time commubnication: Slack allows for real-time messaging, allowing for quick quesitons and answers, instant feedback, and fster decision-making. If I ping someone a question, I typically hear back within 1-hour. - Centralized information and knowledge: Slack has a great search functionality. I can quickly find pass message, files, and conversations, so I can quickly find answers to questions without having to message anyone. - Flexibility and customization: I love that I can personalize my notifications and set a status. I have notifications set on important slack channels to go to my phone. When I'm OOO, I can quickly turn off notifications and set an away status. - Remote Work: I'm a remote employee along with my entire team, and I could not imagine onboarding or doing day-to-day work without Slack. When I was a new hire, I could quickly ping my new hire buddy for answers or search in Slack.

The ease of use, anybody can pickup and use. It can also be customised easily so I can manage notifications and organise channels as I wish. The fact that the platform has a search function is also extremely useful as without it items would be lost completely.

Dislike

Notification Fatigue: Slack messages never end and notifications can be overwhelming at time. It's easy to get distracted, which can interrupt deep work. I will also receive pings out of work hours. Off-Topic chatter: While a great place for team bonding, the informal nature of Slack can lead to excessive off-topic conversations and distractions, making it diffcult to find important information. Information Gets Lost: Since there is so much information and conversations move so quickly, important discussions and files can get buried under new messages. The search tool is good, but there are opportunities to continue to improve it.

Keeping track of all messages and the flow of said messages means important updates can be missed. I feel that sometimes information can get lost in all the different channels and even with the search function things are hard to find. Notifications can also become a distraction and you're constantly filtering where they came from was it work related or a social conversation etc

disappointed to know that admin can find ways to access internal communications or archived communications between employees, a certain level of privacy should be respected. I also think you should get inspired by sharepoint where you should improve your storage info (or better integrate with other tools like Notion, or navigating through a catalogue of product information)

What Your Peers Are Saying About Slack

VP of IT
I am revisiting our messaging retention thresholds more specifically for email (Google) and instant messaging (Slack). Was curious as to what is generally being used as the threshold for these 2 communications tools (i.e.; 30 days, 6 months, etc.)?
Director of IT
I also am curious what other organizations are doing on this front.  We had an event where legal had us put an indefinite hold on all messages (email, IM, etc) and now that has just become the standard.  Would like to compare what other organizations are doing and try to get us back to something that doesn't hold messages forever.

VP SALES OPERATIONS & ENABLEMENT
Does anyone have experience with Slack Sales Elevate or Slack AI?  If so, did you see any productivity improvements, specifically for Sales?   We are looking at Sales Elevate for a few specific use cases: (1) Deal Desk efficency improvements; (2) Summaries of changes made to opportunities for sales leaders; (3) Account planning (there are collaborative templates in Sales Elevate which you can configure to meet your org's needs).   We're also interested because it seems like an easy way to start using AI in a fairly low risk area.   For context, we use SFDC CRM already.

Been disappointed by it honestly, especially when compared to Momentum.io it doesn’t even come close.

Slack Enhances Internal Communication But Raises Employee Privacy Concerns

    5.0
    Sep 14, 2025
I have been using slack for about 5 years across my current company and the previous one. overall, my experience has been very positive, as slack is excellent to preserve internal communication, collaborate with colleagues and stay alligned as a team. that said, I am disappointed by the fact that admins have ways to access internal communication between employees. while I understand this may be necessary in certain contexts, it does affect the feeling of privacy and openness that slack is otherwise so effective

Slack Enables Seamless Collaboration But Notification Volume Can Become Overwhelming

I have used a few different communication platforms and Slack is by far my favorite. There are plenty of features to utilize and collaboration between cross functional partners has been made seamless. Slack is very intuitive and most people should be able to pick it up.
