In the dynamic and competitive world of technology, Gartner Magic Quadrant™ (MQ) reports serve as a vital tool for organizations navigating complex market landscapes. Sometimes, vendors are not pleased with their placement in these evaluations. In this blog post, we address why vendors cannot withdraw from an MQ if they disagree with the results and how our rigorous research process ensures fairness and integrity.
As we’ve discussed in previous posts, our research may not always align with the perspectives of all vendors. This is an inherent part of providing independent analysis. The nature of objective evaluation means that some vendors may not be entirely satisfied with their placement in an MQ and ask not to be included.
Only Gartner experts decide which vendors are included based on the criteria for each MQ. Vendors can’t choose to be added to an MQ, and they can’t opt out either.
One of the key reasons vendors cannot opt out of an MQ is our commitment to providing a comprehensive view of markets. Our clients rely on Gartner to deliver an unbiased assessment of all relevant players, and maintaining this standard is paramount. All vendors that meet a defined set of inclusion criteria are included in the MQ, regardless of whether they actively participate in the research process. Despite occasional claims from vendors that they have “withdrawn” from an MQ, this is not possible.
Gartner’s research process is designed to uphold the highest standards of integrity. Our analysts adhere to a rigorous methodology that includes extensive data collection and peer review. An additional review for factual accuracy is offered to all vendors prior to publication.
Most importantly, every MQ is the result of collaboration among numerous experts within Gartner. It is not the opinion of any single analyst. This approach ensures that the evaluation is well-rounded and incorporates diverse viewpoints. Each MQ undergoes multiple layers of review and input, ensuring that the final product is a consensus view that clients can trust.
While we understand that not every vendor will agree with their placement, and some will ask to be removed from the report, our commitment to integrity and objectivity remains steadfast and Gartner will not agree to that request. By upholding rigorous research standards and fostering collaboration among our experts, we ensure that our clients receive the most accurate and insightful analysis possible.
