Simon focuses on the convergence of manufacturing strategy, technology, and talent. Simon is pioneering research on the technology and business strategies driving smart factories, connected workers, and smart manufacturing. His research and insight have helped more than 600 companies balance innovation with core competency to shape their unique strategies and roadmaps for transforming manufacturing's contribution to profitability.
Simon leads Gartner's Manufacturing Strategy agenda and is an advisory board member for the Clean Energy Smart Manufacturing Innovation Institute (CESMII).
Mr. Jacobson has over 20 years of experience in research and advisory roles. Prior to joining Gartner in 2009 he led AMR Research's manufacturing coverage spanning best practices and various technologies including manufacturing execution systems (MES), quality management systems (QMS), environmental health and safety (EH&S), and mid-tier ERP applications. He was also a member of the team which developed the foundational requirements for enterprise manufacturing intelligence (EMI) and introduced Manufacturing 2.0 as a framework for next-generation manufacturing and a precursor for today's smart manufacturing and Industry 4.0 concepts.
