Deacon D.K Wan is the Senior Director Analyst at Gartner Software Engineering Practices, Strategies and Leadership. Deacon also serves as the lead of Gartner Greater China Research Community, Conference Chair of Application Innovation & Business Solution Summit Japan, and a Leaders-as-Teachers Faculty member.
Mr. Wan was born in Hong Kong, raised in Canada, and internationally groomed. He is equipped with diversified experience in developing partners, managing global teams and affiliates in Greater China, Europe, Japan, Korea, and U.S.
Mr. Wan offered strong product development, operations and business management skills for the Hutchison Whampoa Group of companies from 1994 to 2016, then joined Gartner on 1 September 2016.
Mr. Wan is an executive expert in digital innovations, with end-to-end technical and commercial strength in digital disruption and evolving technology, artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), API ecosystem, mobile and digital commerce, O2O, emerging payments, partnerships and business development. He has proven expertise in monetizing technologies into sound P&L businesses. He developed global services partnerships (Google, Yahoo, Microsoft, eBay, PayPal, Skype and Facebook were first-round investors) and managed MNC business units in different regions. Mr. Wan nurtured startups (Siri, Waze, Onavo, Spotify, Fixmo, Bitcasa, Hola, Stevie social TV, zoom, HzO, Invi, everything.me, Ginger, Magisto, Shine security, Teralytics, WeLab social lending, etc.) for growth.
He also applied technologies and business acumen to drive digital innovations on user interface, apps development, digital/mobile advertising, mobile and e-commerce (tom.com, esdlife.com, hutchgo.com.hk/Hutchison Priceline, etc.). He worked as a commercial leader with product development, product management and business skills with close collaboration with retailers, payment associations and banks. In addition, Mr. Wan managed global procurements with Qualcomm, Samsung, LG, Sony, Nokia, Motorola, Huawei, ZTE, Lenovo, NEC, Mediatek, Gemalto, INQ, MOMO Design, ODM/OEMs, etc. He transformed and integrated mass market services marketing (B2C), enterprise mobility solutions (B2B), technology product developments (R&D and innovation), with P&L responsibilities.
